Lion and the Lamb Academy

Several months ago we finally settled on a name for our home school: Lion and the Lamb Academy. For years we contemplated several different names for our school. We finally came up with this, and we are satisfied. So, now that we have a name, it's time to get and official shirt, right?? We need something to wear to field trips so that we are all wearing the same thing, and it's easy to spot each other out in a crowd. And, since I recently got an embroidery machine, we're going to have some fancy shirts! Okay, maybe not too fancy. But cool, none-the-less. I'll post a picture when I get them done.

Also, here, at Lion and the Lamb Academy, it's been a rough 2nd semester. So much has been going on in life that we haven't had a lot of sit down 'school'. But, isn't life the best school anyway? Yes, it's important to learn to read, write, count, add and subtract, etc. But, what about life skills? Aren't those equally important? Well, at our 'school' they certainly are! Plus, while we're learning all of these valuable life lessons, we're also learning those basic fundamentals of reading, writing, counting, and so on. It's amazing how much we still learn, even when we aren't sitting down to do it.

I love this aspect of home schooling. That we can all learn together as we go about each day, and all the craziness that comes with it. Because, believe me, there is a lot of craziness! That's one reason we are taking today off. We need a day to just be. Sure, we had the weekend but sometimes you just need one more day. And I am thankful that we can take that day when we need to.

I hope you all have a very blessed day, whether you're working hard, or, like me, hardly working!

A little of this, a little of that

The last month has been crazy hectic. We closed on a house (after weeks of wondering if we ever would), had that house painted and re-floored, 'packed', and moved in a week ago. All, of course, while still trying to maintain the day to day life of a homeschooling family. Two words come to mind thinking about this time: stress & chaos. By the time everything was said and done, I didn't want to make any more decisions. I'd had enough of all the fun decision making I can take. So, our new home is going to be a bit out of whack for a while. I'm okay with that, for now. Mu hubby, on the other hand, not so much! We need some time to just be and breathe. There is lots to be done, and it will get done. I just think it can wait a week. Our homeschool needs to get back in session, like real session. Where we all sit and learn together. The simple joys!

With that said, we ordered some new homeschool curriculum for our 9 y/o - Switched on Schoolhouse. We are eager to receive it in the mail and begin. We only ordered Language Arts and Science but it's exciting. Mainly because we haven't had a real science curriculum yet. Language arts we've been bouncing around with different things, so this should be great. Plus, the fact that it is computer based is wonderful. My 9 y/o LOVES the computer! And, it will give me extra time to work with my 7 y/o, whom does NOT love the computer.  =) We're sticking to our Horizons and Explode the Code for him. It works and he likes it, that's all that matters.

On an unrelated note, our 7 month old thinks she wants to crawl. Like, she really WANTS to! I am not ready. But, I guess that doesn't really matter, does it?

Have a fabulous weekend friends! Enjoy each day that the Lord has given us! Each day is a new, wonderful adventure just waiting to happen.

Psalm 16:8

This Sabbath morning I sat down to read what I missed at church last night. I wanted to share it...

I have set the Lord always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. Ps. 16:8.
We are living in an age of peril, when ungodliness is common. Even professed Christians do not believe their Bibles. The truth of the Word of God is too plain and pointed for them. . . . Antichristian ideas, customs, and practices prevail, and they are even construed to be Christian; but that which is of most value, that which God esteems most highly, is treated with contempt. Well may the God-fearing inquire, What shall the end of these things be? Love for Christ and love for one another is fast dying out of the hearts of men....
Wickedness prevails on every hand; for Satan has come down having great wrath, knowing that he hath but a short time. He is a persevering, diligent, untiring worker, and if ever there was a time when men needed the presence of Christ at their right hand, it is now. . . . We need the Captain of our salvation continually by our side.
There is, and will continue to be, agitation all around us; for the kingdoms of the world will not be at rest. Never was there a time when the temptation to deny Christ in spirit and in deportment, was stronger, and this temptation will increase in power as we near the end. Strong and overpowering temptations will come upon men. False doctrines and fables will be presented as Bible truth, for men's acceptance; and if it were possible, they will deceive the very elect. But is it a time for our love to grow cold, when iniquity abounds? Is this a time to be at ease? Is this the time to separate from God, our Counselor?
The end of all things is at hand. The day of God is hastening on apace. The world is full of crime and anguish and sorrow. There are calamities by land and by sea. Storm and tempest make it unsafe for us to be separated from God for one single moment. Only those who live by faith in this probationary life, will be able to stand in the day of test, when everything that can be shaken will be shaken, but they shall dwell in safety and be unmoved.
Also, this hymn was in my head when I woke up this morning, and I can't stop singing it. Just beautiful!

I pray you all have a beautiful, blessed Sabbath day!

It Matters

IT MATTERS

Two trees in the midst of the garden
Grew in the very same way.
But it mattered which tree Eve partook of,
And the difference is still felt today.

It mattered which type of an offering
Was brought by Abel and Cain.
The Lord had respect unto Abel’s,
But Cain’s substitute wasn’t the same.

It mattered to Nadab and Abihu
Which fire they offered with sin.
“Isn’t one fire as good as another?”
They tragically reasoned within.

David well knew God’s instructions
How the sacred ark should be moved,
But ignored the crucial specifics
As the death of Uzzah proved.

“Why must I dip in the Jordan?”
Naaman asked in a huff.
“Aren’t the rivers of Damascus far better?”
No, Naaman, they’re not good enough.
“And why must I dip seven times?
Won’t dip number one do the trick?”
Had Naaman ignored the specifics,
He’d have returned to his home still sick.

When God gives specific instructions
For a task that we’re to do,
He intends for us to perform it
The way He has asked us to.

When He tells us we are to do it
In a certain particular way,
He doesn’t intend us to change it
To suit what others might say.

He often specifies details
Extremely important to Him,
That people regard far too lightly
And make alterations at whim.

There’s a purpose for each of God’s precepts,
The “why” we may never have heard.
And we, though we may not discern it,
Are safe only in following each word.

Head Covering Update #2

So, yesterday, I needed to run out to the store real quick. I couldn't find my favorite head covering, and the other one I have is a bit too tight. I don't like wearing it. I decided to grab my ball cap instead. It's like a head covering, right? I mean, it covers my head.  Well, I wore it and went about my errand. I felt so awkward the entire time I was out. It is definitely NOT the same. I was happy to get home and find the one I like to wear. The only thing is, it's blue. So, it doesn't coordinate with all of my clothes. Oh well. It's something. I hope to make some new ones when I find a few extra moments. Which, is hard to come by lately. Definitely some longer ones. Mine are more like head bands.

Also, I actually dreamt about all of this last night. In my dream I had a rainbow colored one. Kind of weird. Anyway, that's my update. If you've been wearing a head covering also, I'd love to hear how it's been effecting you! Please leave a comment!
